I have an extra lower just laying around collecting dust and it's crying for an upper.  I think my next upper will be a superlight, either by Bushmaster or the one offered by Eaglefirearms.net.

*Does anybody have any experience with these?
*Will they bend like a wet noodle, or am I being silly to worry about that?
*Do you have pics of your AR with a superlight upper?

Dude, look around before you post... there's a thread that has most of what you are looking for a few titles up...

Everything on this homebuilt had the dual theme:  Cheap and light.  The rail is polymer as is the grip, light body, light mount, (and QD bipod and bipod mount not shown), the carrier, stock, and more.  It's so light, it can't be bump fired, it's like limp wristing it.

Barrel heats up quick, but cools quick, and is a pleasure to carry.

The cavarms/bushy superlight bbl combo is a real gem.

Here's mine.

Bushmaster receivers and internals

Single point sling adaptor (for HK style hooks)(not visible)
A1 pistol grip
CAR handguards

Same gun with M4 style handguards and A2 pistol grip.

I added Bushmaster's 16" Super Lightweight barrel to an SP1 upper. Put it on my Sporter Match HBAR slabside lower. The reverse, or slip over, flash suppressor is Bushmaster's. It's a heavy chunk of steel but the rifle does balance at the slip ring with it. Balances at about the pivot pin without.

Here is my flattop light weight I built up awhile back.

Been running a carbine with the Bush SL for the last 2 years - they are great.  My issued M16A1 had the same profile barrel.

*Will they bend like a wet noodle, or am I being silly to worry about that?

Very silly.  Just for fun go compare a SLW with a USGI M14 barrel then come back and tell us what you found

*Do you have pics of your AR with a superlight upper?

Yep but it's been posted so many times.  Check the other threads.

Carried an M-16 with the famous 'pencil' barrel in RVN ..fired a lot of full auto
Yep it heats up on full auto...semi not much of a problem..

A 16" Bushy super light wt is a dream to pack and shoot...

La Rue Tactical has got some .625 gas blocks that fit nicely under their rails..so you can have
just about any barrel milled down to super lt wt profile..

Now if Bushy built a mid length with 1in7 twist and super Lt profile 4150 with M4 cuts..by golly
that might be nice seller for em..

Denny's Guns will probably beat them to it...

imo

The superlight is already slightly THINNER from the front sight forward than at the point where the M4 has it's cuts.  It's not needed nor desired (can you say "BARREL RUPTURE"?).

I wonder if he means M4 feedramps??? not the notch for the 203...

Great CQB guns. I prefer 14.5 myself, though. Or 10.5. They work fine in close, and even at 300m I don't think the light barrel will limit a shooter. Normally the shooters abilities, under field conditions, are the limit of the shooter/rifle systems combined ability to engage the target.

That would be nice, but it's certainly not needed.

You want 4150 superlight with M4 ramps, get the Colt barrel.

I would like to see the weight on some of them rifles. I need a current pic with the sight installed. Cal arms MKII lower with Oly upper and Colt 16" 1/7 light weight barrel. Shot this setup yesterday with some XM193 ammo. Runs like a top.

How much CQB work have you done with them?  When someone makes a comment like that, I am always interested in what they have actually done....

Here's my SGW/RRA/BUSHIE SUPERLITE combo gun.  Mount is a BC-Cam, optic is just a little Panorama that I hate to say I like.

BTW, this setup rocks and the Bushie upper was definitely the icing on the cake!!!

You showed a weight without a rear sight, what does it come to with the rear sight?

Thanks for all of your replies!  I decided to buy one yesterday from Eagle Firearms.  They claim it's chrome-lined, but don't specify the type of steel (4150 or 4140).  I'm not really sure if it matters.  Anybody else have the Eagle upper?

BTW, I ordered it for around $330, $70 less than Bushmaster.
